John Wall Carries The Wizards

John Wall and JaVale McGee carried the Washington Wizards to their fourth straight victory in the NBA Summer league, 90-89, over the New Orleans Hornets who fall to 0-4. Lester Hudson scored the game winning basket at the buzzer to give the Wizards the victory.

Wall and McGee teamed up to score 60 of the Wizards 90 points on the night. Combined they shot an amazing 23-39 from the field for 59.0% with McGee maximizing every shot, shooting 13-16 for 81.3% on the night.

Wall led all scorers with 31 points, a Summer League high for John, on 10-23 from the field and 10-13 from the charity stripe.  Wall added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block all while only turning the ball over twice, a previous problem apparently solved over the last two games. The Hornets dominated the first half, starting the second period off with a 15-0 run and taking a 13 point lead into the half.

The Wizards second half surge was lead by John Wall who single-handedly brought the team back scoring 14 points during Washington’s 18-0 run in a third quarter that saw the Wizards go from being down 13 to up by 1, 66-65. The Wizards held the Hornets to just 16 points in third.

The hard-fought fourth quarter featured eight lead changes and five ties as the two teams traded baskets for most of the period. With 2.2 seconds left in the game, the Hornets held a one point lead after Craig Brackins sank a three-point shot, however with time running out the Wizards had the final say in the ballgame.

Up next for the Wall and the Wizards, the New York Knicks on Saturday. Tip time is 4:00 PM EDT. This is your last chance to see Wall in action prior to the season.
