Draft Express 2011 Mock Draft

In 2010, Kentucky made history by having five players selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. Honestly, it was a great day for the program but it’s a day I prefer not to see duplicated anytime in the near future. Reloading is one of Coach Calipari’s many talents, but to win the big one, it seems some talented upperclassmen are required.

Draft Express, considered by many as the best site for draft info, has completed their 2011 Mock Draft and are projecting three Cats to be drafted in the first two rounds.

one question is who will be back for the 2011-12 season? Rumors have surfaced that Eloy Vargas and Stacey Poole may be transferring, but that is simply a rumor at this point. Josh will run out of eligibility this year, so theoretically UK would only lose one senior and any who might declare for the 2011 NBA Draft.

Draft Express listed Enes Kanter, Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight as being selected in the first round, with  Kanter going the highest at the number 6 spot, Jones going at the number 8 spot and Knight at the 22nd slot. Recent articles are saying that Brandon Knight doesn’t see the NBA in his future next year, but that is still to be determined.

If kentucky only loses Harrellson, Jones and Knight, it will leave Coach calipari and the Cats with a solid core group and the number 1 recruiting class in the country coming into Lexington next year. The roster would look like this:

  • Darius Miller – Sr
  • DeAndre Liggins – Sr
  • Eloy Vargas – Sr
  • Jon Hood – Jr
  • Doron Lamb – So
  • Jarrod Polson – So
  • Stacey Poole – So
  • Michael Gilchrist – Fr
  • Anthony Davis – Fr
  • Marquis Teague – Fr
  • Kyle Wiltjer

Coach Calipari has stated that he’s looking for one more, potentially two more recruits to add to the 2011 class. Names that continue to resonate as possibilities are DeAndre Daniels, Trevor Lacey, Stan Simpson and God’s Gift Achiuwa.

With the above roster, i would love to see Kentucky pick up one more big and either Lacey or Daniels. Both are very athletic and solid scorers. Daniels gives the Cats more size and may be better in the dribble drive motion, but the pure scoring ability of Lacey is hard to pass up.

Calipari, if he so chose, could add three more players. Polson was originally a walk on and has been granted a scholarship by Coach Calipari, but that could always be removed as scholarships are on a year to year basis. Adding a big along with Lacey and Daniels would make the 2011-12 team hard to beat, especially as they became more mature.

Either way, the future continues to look good for the Big Blue.

Go Cats!!!
