Wall Earns Another Award

For John Wall, winning awards is as common as me wanting a bowl of cereal before I hit the sack at night. That would mean frequently…

Wall, a current member of the Washington Wizards and the first Kentucky player ever drafter number 1 in the NBA Draft, won so many awards during his Freshman season at Kentucky, it would take me a page to list and you ten minutes or more to read.

National Player of the Year, first team All-American, All- SEC, SEC Player of the Year, the list is endless. Today John added another award to his laundry list, Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January.

Wall averaged 13.9 points and 10.5 assists and played in every game despite dealing with multiple injuries throughout the month. Wall set a rookie record when he became the first rookie in NBA history to have at least nine assists in 10 straight games.

He also had 164 assists in the month, which were the most by a rookie since Mark Jackson had 172 assists for the Knicks in 1988.

Out of the 16 games played in January, Wall collected 10 double-double’s. He scored 22 and had 9 rebounds in a win over his former teammate DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings, scored 19 points and had a career-high 15 assists in a win over Utah, and had 16 points — including the game-winning three-pointer — in a victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics.

Wall’s main opponent for the NBA Rookie of the Year, Blake Griffin, won the Western Conference Rookie of the Month, all while averaging 26.0 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.

Congratulations John and Go Cats!!!
