Cats Move Up In Latest Polls

Both the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches polls are out and the Cats are upward bound.

After a week where all but three of the top 10 teams lost, one constant remained the same. Ohio State is a unanimous choice at No. 1 in both polls. The Buckeyes, 22-0, are the last undefeated team in the top 25 of either poll as previously undefeated San Diego State fell at the hands of the Jimmer and BYU, 71-58.

Kentucky (16-4, 4-2 SEC), behind a win at home against SEC East rival Georgia, has moved into the number 10 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, up four spots from number 14 last week.

In the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches poll, Kentucky vaulted all the way from number 16 to number 11, just outside of the Top 10.

The Cats received 1,037 points in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and 453 points in the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches poll.

The Cats are on the road this week with games at Ole Miss on February 1st and at Florida on February 5th. Two games that could obviously define the race for the SEC Regular season Championship. Both games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, with the Ole Miss game broadcast on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. ET. The match up at Florida will be a prime time game featured on ESPN with a scheduled tip time of 9:00 p.m. ET.

Besides Kentucky, the big Top 10 movers in the two polls are Kansas who jumped from 6th to 2nd in both polls, Texas who moved up from 8th to 3rd in the Coaches poll and 7th to 3rd in the AP poll, Notre Dame who moved from 14th to 8th in the Coaches poll and 15th to 9th in the AP poll and Arizona, who broke into the Top 25 at the 22nd spot in the Coaches and 21st in the AP.

Other newcomers to the AP Poll included Utah State at number 22, North Carolina at number 23 and West Virginia at number 25.
