The Race For 2012 Recruit Perry Ellis

For most Cat fans, Perry Ellis is quickly becoming a household name as he has become one of the top recruiting targets for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Perry is a 6-8, 220 lb Power Forward that is an absolute BEAST… He was named Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year two consecutive years and is the only player to have an opportunity to win that coveted award four times. That’s right, four times. Perry was the GPOTY as a Freshman and is once again dominating Kansas basketball.

Rivals has him ranked No 19 overall and No 6 at his position. Recently Perry cut his list of schools down to six, Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, Oklahoma, Memphis and Kentucky.

It seems natural that the in-state schools would have a natural advantage, then Memphis would be next because his sister (Who is second all-time in blocks at Memphis) is currently a member of the Lady Tigers.

Kentucky and Oklahoma would seem to be the outsiders looking in, but we all know with Coach Calipari, that doesn’t always stand true and the web site March to March tends to agree. Here is what they had to say about the Perry Ellis race.

Two future names that Kansas fans should keep an eye on are Perry Ellis (2012) and Julius Randle (2013). Ellis is from Wichita, KS and is the 19th overall prospect via Rivals. He’s been heavily linked to Kansas, and anything other than a KU or UK decision would be a heavy upset. Ellis will also be visiting Lawrence this weekend with some heady company.

My personal wish has nothing to do with Coach Calipari and the University of Kentucky’s wish list, but, if I could pick a Power Forward from the 2012 Class, this is the young man I most desire to see wearing Kentucky Blue and White when Big Blue Madness opens the season in 2012.

Not only is he a winner on the court (Two state titles), but he is a winner in the classroom, carrying that big 4.0 around like a Gold Medal, as he should. Perry is the perfect fit for a school rich in tradition. His presence only heightens the 2012 season and beyond.

Here’s a taste of Perry in between his Sophomore and Junior season.

Until next time, Go Cats!!!
