Happy Happy Belated Birthday

VIDEO HERE – 1996 Championship Game

July 18 was a big day for the University of Kentucky. The problem was that NO ONE had any clue just how big it would eventually be until many years later.

July 18, 1968 and 1974 was responsible for two future Kentucky Players. Players that will forever live among the greats in Kentucky Basketball.

1968 was the birth year of one John Pelphrey while 1974 was the birth year of Derek Anderson.

Both bring back fond memories for Cats fans, Pelphrey as a member of the Unforgettable’s and Anderson as a member of the Untouchables.

Pelphrey as the home grown kid from Paintsville, KY and Mr Basketball 1987, while Anderson, the other home grown kid hailed from Louisville coming to Kentucky via a transfer from Ohio State.

John, a part of what most consider the Greatest College Basketball Game ever against the D(P)ukies while Anderson was a member of the National Champion 1996 team and the team who (If he could have played would have won) lost to Arizona in the 1997 Final Game.

Pelphrey with one of the 41 retired jerseys hanging in Rupp’s rafters and Anderson as a first round draft pick with 11 seasons in the NBA.

Both are loved deeply by all those who bleed blue and both will be remembered for years to come.

From all of us at the Big Blue Nation, Happy Happy Birthday…
