The “Beast is Back in Town”

Number 2 Kentucky showed why they are the Beast of the SEC and the most talented team in the country by dismantling a good Tennessee team, handling them in every category.Rupp South was roaring as the Cats sprinted away from Tennessee in the second half, outscoring the Vols 42-26 and pulling away for a 74-45 win.The Cats extended their record to 31-2 (12-5) in the SEC and will play on Sunday in an attempt to win their 26th SEC Tournament Championship. With only 1:05 gone in the second half, Calipari called a timeout as the Cats came out flat allowing Tennessee to temporarily gain some confidence.Tennessee pulled within 6 at the 9:32 mark on Brian Williams lay up, but would never get that close again as Kentucky went on a quick 5-0 run behind a Patterson power dunk over Chism and a 3 from Bledsoe. Wall chalked up an assist on both shots and the run forced Bruce Pearl to call a timeout.Calipari got the best of the timeout as UK came out with a 24-15 run to finish the game and finish the Vols hope for an SEC Tournament Championship. The “Beast” reared its head today as the Cats put together 40 minutes of Big Blue Madness. DeMarcus Cousins came back to work after taking four games off from the double-digit category, by dominating the inside and posting another double-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing 15 boards, creating 3 steals and swatting 2 shots, all while going 7-17 from the charity stripe.

It’s been four games since Boogie scored in double digits or had double-digit rebounds. His post-game interview, after the Alabama win, seemed more like a funeral conversation. But his response today was exactly what Coach Cal was looking for from the Freshmen of the Year in the SEC and possibly the best Big Man in college basketball.

Wall had another of his usual Player of the Year Award (in my opinion) day as he chalked up 14 points with 9 assists and 6 rebounds while only turning the ball over 5 times. But Wall and Cousins were more than just the stats, they led the team and created the energy necessary for UK to not only win, but to do exactly what Coach Cal expected them to do, CRUSH their opponent.Bledsoe lit up the 3-point stripe making 5-8, scoring 17 points, grabbing 4 boards and creating 2 turnovers and having his best game since his 25 point showing during the Florida game on January 12.The three super freshmen accounted for 50 of UK’s 74 points while Kentucky’s Defense held Tennessee under 50 points for the first time this season and handed them the largest loss margin.Up next, the winner of Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Tip time is 1:00 P.M. Eastern. Videos up later.
